An elite business school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, HBS strives to promote social responsibility alongside its comprehensive business management curriculum. To achieve this end, HBS features a program called the Social Enterprise Initiative (SEI). Consisting of faculty, students, and alumni who seek to contribute to positive social change, SEI takes a research-driven approach to developing solutions to pressing societal problems.
Now celebrating its 25th year, SEI offers on-campus projects as well as the chance to participate in the Social Enterprise Summer Fellows program, which offers internships at social change organizations to about 80 MBA students each year. Thanks to HBS’s extensive work in the field of social enterprise, a large number of HBS students become involved in social impact and social entrepreneurship work after graduation. In fact, more than a third of HBS alumni currently serve on nonprofit boards, and 85 percent take on this service role at some point in their careers.
